Jeffrey Friedl's Metadata Viewer (like many other metadata viewers) is based on Phil Harvey's ExifTool. When I view the EXIF data from my X-T1 with Jeffrey Friedl's " Metadata Viewer” Lightroom Plugin, it does show something called "ImageCount" which is in the "Maker's Notes" category of metadata - that is, the ImageCount metadata is propritary to Fuji. (If the shutter count exists somewhere in the EXIF data, no one has been able to tell me how to find it.) So I assumed the shutter count is recorded in the metadata by most other cameras, as well.īut when I started shopping for my first Fuji - an X-E2 - I did a fair bit of research and finally came to the conclusion that Fuji does not make the shutter count available for that model. I suspect the root of the "problem" has more to do with Fuji than it does with the website.įinding the shutter count in the EXIF data of my two Pentax digital cameras was simple enough. Was your camera ever serviced? A new mainboard or shutter unit would surely have a zeroed counter. You could check samples of your images from various firmware versions and compare them if you have had the same camera over several update cycles. I have two X-H1's which have been steadily updated from firmware 1.00 through 2.01 and I have not noticed any alteration in the shutter count but I also have not purposely checked either. The X-T2 supposedly suffered from this but I have not personally experienced it. There have also been some firmware updates that reportedly reset the counter value in the cameras. If so, the question becomes "Why did your camera counter reset?" Fuji has a spotty history with shutter count info and it was not always provided in the EXIF data. So if those are the values embedded in your raw files then the app is likely functioning properly. That web app is simply displaying the value found in the EXIF data. You can use that directly and see the same raw metadata. My guess is that apotelyt is using exiftool to read the metadata.
